Our approach

How we work: the five areas we operate in, and the commitments we hold ourselves to.

A meaningful difference in the life of an orphaned child is rarely one thing. Our work runs across five operating areas, held together by a set of commitments we have put in writing so that anyone can hold us to them.

Our modus operandi

Education

To enhance access to quality education for orphaned children in Tanzania by providing resources, scholarships and educational programmes that foster their intellectual, emotional and social development.

Healthcare

To improve the overall health and wellbeing of orphaned children by facilitating access to healthcare services, promoting preventive measures, and supporting medical facilities in the orphanage centres.

Advocacy

To advocate for the rights and wellbeing of orphaned children in Tanzania, raising awareness about their unique challenges and mobilising support from the community, government and other stakeholders.

Collaboration

To establish and strengthen partnerships with local organisations, government agencies and international donors, to maximise our impact and create sustainable change for orphaned children.

Capacity building

To build the capacity of orphanage staff and caregivers through training programmes, workshops and mentorship, enabling them to provide better care, support and education to the children.

Our commitment

These are the working commitments we have made to the children, the centres and the supporters we answer to.

  • We will exist not because we can, but because we must. We recognise that our organisation should only exist if it is truly distinct from the other non-profits in our ecosystem.
  • We will co-create change. We will seek input from our stakeholders, including from those who benefit from our programmes and services.
  • We will foster focus internally. We know our mission, vision and core values are more than just statements — they are our strategic guideposts.
  • We will prioritise our people. We will develop a diverse, equitable and inclusive team and board.
  • We will establish what success looks like. We commit to measuring our progress towards our mission and sharing it with the world.
  • We will hold everyone on our team accountable to our mission. We commit to doing what we say we will do in our strategic plans.
  • We will practise agile strategic planning. We commit to making our strategic plan a living, breathing roadmap.
  • We will measure our impact, report on it, and optimise. We will track our metrics on a shared internal dashboard.
  • Each key function will have its own strategy and sufficient budget, in alignment with our strategic plan.
